Cuenca is a small city in the south of Castilla, whose historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has a unique characteristic, indeed, it is located atop of a rocky hill, with some parts of the town at 946 meters above sea level, and it even has houses hanging in the air, looking over the Júcar river.
While the new part of the city (“New Town”) is in the valley, the historic center is still on the hill. Going up to see it can sometimes be a challenge, as the stairs are partly steep.
During our trip to the city we will be accompanied by an official guide who will show us the city. We will visit its monuments: the church of San Pedro, the Plaza Mayor, in it we will see the Cathedral and at the end closing the square with three arches, the city hall the Museum of Sciences, the road before the Tower Mangana and a viewpoint with part views of the modern city of Cuenca.
Located in Valdecabras (BASIN), in the heart of the Natural Park of the Cuenca mountains and surrounded by huge pines, the Enchanted City is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places in Spain where you can meet and learn karst geological process and admire its whimsical formations. Therefore, the Enchanted City was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929.
