FAQ

Can I come alone?

Absolutely! Friday Connect is designed to make meeting new people easy, and our sticker system helps break the ice from the moment you arrive.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No, you are welcome to practice any language and anyone is welcome.

Is this only for expats?

Not at all! Friday Connect is for both expats and locals who want to meet international people, make friends, and expand their social circle.

Can I pick more than one option or change my mind?

Of course! You can circle another color on your sticker or ask a host for a new one at any time.

What is a language exchange?

The process is very simple. At the mayority of the exchanges, you will receive a sticker on which you write down your name, your native language and the language(s) you would like to speak. You can search for people whose native languages corresponds to the languages you would like to practice. You can always ask our crew for help if you have difficulty finding another suitable participant. During the few events where we do not work with stickers, our crew assigns the tables so everybody can join a suitable group of participants. A few minutes later the event turns into a multilingual social gathering where you can meet international friends.

The exchange on Friday is a bit different. In umbracle at the entry you will receive a flag of your country /native tongue and you will search for a particpant who speaks the language you would like to practice. That way the diversity of our participants is shown through the flags.

What is the cost of the events?

Most of the events are free of cost except from our events on Fridays because we organise specials events, such as painting and ceramic classes. Theses events requires some costs for the materials provided by VLE.

Which languages are spoken during the exchanges?

All the languages can be spoken during our languages exchanges.
Usually there is a great amount of participants who speak English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Sometimes other languages can be spoken if both native speakers and language learners are present during the exchange. At some exchanges, there are for example participants who speak Portuguese, Russian, Chinese etc.

Do the exchanges require a certain level of proficiency

Everybody is welcome at our exchanges. We don’t divide people into groups according to their proficiency. Proficiency is not a determinant factor during the learning process of foreign languages. If you like practising learning and speaking in various languages, our events are the place to be. Everybody, from native speakers to beginners, is welcome.

How do I register for the events?

You go to our site valencialanguageexchange.com and chose a date that suits you in the calender. You fill in the form of the event and you are ready to participate. Not all our events require registration.

Is Valencia Language Exchange collaborating with the State Ministry of Education (Conselleria de Educación)?

Yes, Valencia Language Exchange organises events in the collaboration with the State Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. (conselleria d’educació cultura i esport).
