Selva Irati – Bardenas reales – Tudela – Ochagavía – Castillo de Olite

Autumn is approaching, and Selva Irati will be transformed into an almost unique palette of colors.
They call it, the Magic forest of the Pyrenees. Why? Because in summer it becomes fluorescent green, in winter it becomes snow white, and the best time is AUTUMN when the green is dyed ocher and gold, and looks like a red curtain.
The photos look like a fantasy of a painter, the light that crosses the vegetation along with the mists seems a legend.
Yes, we are talking about the second largest beech forest in Europe after the German Black Forest. More than 17,000 hectares of virgin forest in the Navarre Pyrenees, with rivers, waterfalls, caves, gorges, viewpoints, and the most spectacular suspension bridges you have ever seen in your life.
The valleys of Aezkoa and Salazar, where there are three natural reserves, the integral reserve of Lizardoia, the natural reserve of Mendilatz and Truistibartea.
We will make two hiking routes in AEZKOA VALLEY and SALAZAR VALLEY.
If you still want to see more, we have added:
  • TUDELA AND BARDENAS DESERT
  • CASTLE OF OLITE
  • PAMPLONA
Our program (see below for a detailed description of all locations)

We will leave very early in the morning. We go to the desert of BARDENAS REALES (Natural Park of 42,500 hectares, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO). We will stop for 4 hours so you can enjoy the desert and the town of Tudela. We will have lunch there and leave for Pamplona, where we have our 3* hotel for 3 nights. We will arrive around 18:00 and the rest of the day we will enjoy Pamplona.

We wake up in the morning, have breakfast and set off on a very nice 15 km easy-medium level route (with lakes and waterfalls in the Salazar valley). After the route we visit Ochagavía and around 19:00 we return to Pamplona.
Saturday 04/11
On Saturday we have two options: visit Pamplona OR hiking route. After the breakfast, you can choose to have a guided tour of Pamplona and have lunch in the city or to go on a hiking route. At 15:00, we will leave to Castillo de Olite, one of top 5 castle of the all Spain. For the evening we return to our hotel and enjoy all together in the evening.
Sunday 05/11
We wake up, have breakfast and go out to make a very nice route of 11 km easy-medium level (details below) in the valley of Aezkoa. Then, after the route we leave to return to Valencia.
Tudela Bardenas Reales
It’s like being in a western movie or a lunar landscape or being in the Colorado Canyon, but in Spain. Do you BELIEVE it?
Las Bardenas Reales is a Natural Park of 42,500 hectares, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. You can visit it by bus or take a 4×4 or Segway route (optional activities).
Salazar Valley
The Salazar Valley is a valley of architecture, art, nature and history with cultures, traditions and gastronomy.
Beautiful villages such as Escaroz, Esparza de Salazar, Gallués, Izal, Ochagavia, Sarriés, Uscarrés, along the rivers Salazar, Urbeltza and Urtxuria, natural areas such as the reservoir of Irabia, and the peak of Orhi, 2000 meters.
Aezkova Valley
12,000 hectares of forest with the Irati forest, hidden caves, dolmens, hermitages, stelae … are part of the hallmarks of this valley that is home to nine municipalities. Among them is the highest of Navarra, Abaurrea Alta, the balcony of Aezkoa.
Ochagavía
A fantasy village in the Pyrenees of Navarra, and one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It is an unmissable visit in the Selva de Irati.
If you are a fan of photography or instagram influencer, this village will not leave you disappointed with the pictures and during the afternoon this village is even more beautiful, when the sunlight highlights the facades of the houses located in front of the river Anduña.
Pamplona
Pamplona, the capital of Navarra, was a medieval city that was formed by three burghs: the Navarrería, San Cernin and the town of San Nicolás and now with four million square meters of parks and gardens that make it one of the largest “green cities” in Europe. A quiet city with emblematic corners marked by the Sanfermines and the Camino de Santiago.
It is the city where we will sleep 2 nights in a 3* hotel.
Castillo de Olite
They call it the medieval fantasy, and it was one of the most interesting gothic ensembles in Europe and one of the most luxurious medieval castles in Europe.
Declared a National Monument in 1925, today, this fascinating castle still retains its elegance and elegance of yesteryear.
