The Cañon Rojo (Red Canyon), also known as “Barranco Rojo” (Red Ravine), is a well-known canyon located in the province of Teruel within the autonomous community of Aragón, Spain.
The canyon is known for its striking red-colored rock formations. The rocks are red because they contain a lot of iron oxide, which has been exposed and worn away over millions of years. The Cañon Rojo features multiple hiking trails for exploration. Its rugged terrain makes it ideal for adventurous hikers and geology enthusiasts. The canyon has steep walls and narrow pathways, with the red sandstone forming a maze-like landscape.
The canyon is situated near Teruel which itself is worth exploring. Its known for its rich mudejar architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
