Hello Hikers,
This time we are going to a beautiful Castillo de Castro. One of the most impressive routes in the Sierra Espadán. We will start in Alfondeguilla, pass through Fonteta ravine (barranco de la Fonteta) to the castle and walk in the cork oak forests.
The castle construction is of Arab origin and it is also called Castillo de Alfondeguilla and was used by the Romans as a watchtower. The castle is located on the crest of the Sierra de Espadán at an altitude of 787 metres.
After a walk of almost 2 hours, we will arrive to the castle where you can admire the remains of the wall, the tower and the roman time aqueduct. We will take the PR 138, to arrive to the castle, you can also have access to this castle from same trek from the village of Chovar (the water of consum)

Cuevas de San José (San José caves)
An underground river of San José with its rocky landscapes of approx 2.5 km long maintains and the temperature of + 20ºC is considered the longest navigable underground river in Europe. The Caves which sometimes are called “the heart of the earth” are full of stalactites and stalagmites that you can enjoy during the boat ride as well as some cave drawings left centuries ago. After some reconstructions and light installation in 1920’s the route became more open to tourists and much safer. A unique place to visit for sure!

10:30 Arrival and Caves
Before we will go to San Jose caves (Optional)
Start Hiking
Right after Caves we will go to Alfondeguilla for Hiking trek and in the middle we will have lunch,
FInish the Hike and Some drinks
After Trek we will go to have some drinks.
