Typical Moroccan pastries:

 

  • Baklava – Layers of flaky filo dough filled with chopped nuts (like almonds or walnuts) and sweetened with honey or syrup.
  • Ghriba – Soft, crumbly cookies often made with almonds or coconut.
  • Kaab el Ghazal – Crescent-shaped pastries filled with almond paste and lightly dusted with powdered sugar.
  • Sable (or Meloui) – Buttery, flaky cookies that are often served with tea.
  • Makrout – Semolina cakes filled with dates or nuts, fried and then soaked in honey.
  • Fekkas – Biscotti-like cookies, typically with almonds, sesame seeds, and sometimes dried fruit.
  • Chebakia – Fried dough coated in honey and sesame seeds, often enjoyed during special occasions like Ramadan.
