Oranges & Paella

What are the two most famous gastronomic delights in Valencia? Oranges and Paella, of course! You’ve probably already noticed the abundance of oranges and the tantalizing aroma of paella wafting through the streets.

Do you know the right way to pick oranges and cook paella? It’s time to do both!

An expert will guide us on how to pick oranges correctly, while another expert will show us how to cook authentic paella (with a cooking demonstration included).

Paella Cooking Show A master paella chef will teach us the right way to make paella, explaining the ingredients and the techniques involved. Afterward, we can enjoy the same paella (with a vegetarian option available). The chef will also teach us how to prepare sangria.

Did you know Valencia began growing oranges in 1781? And that “paella” actually refers to the frying pan used to cook the dish? Paella was originally a meal for farm workers, made with rice and whatever ingredients they found in the fields, such as tomatoes, onions, snails, and beans for flavor and texture.

You can choose your mode of transport (metro, bus, or car), but be sure to be at “Omet” metro station by 10:30 a.m.. Alternatively, join us at 11:00 at the event location (it’s a 20-minute walk from the metro station). Upon arrival, we’ll divide into groups for different activities: one for learning how to pick oranges and another for preparing sangria. After these classes, we’ll all come together for the paella cooking class.

Once the paella is prepared, we’ll enjoy it together (vegetarian options will be available). Drinks can be brought with you or purchased on-site at affordable prices. We’ll return around 4:00/4:30 p.m.
