The Vía Verde del Mar is a coastal greenway that connects Oropesa del Mar and Benicàssim, following a former railway line that runs right along the Mediterranean coast. The route is considered an easy, accessible trail suitable for walking and cycling.
The path offers constant sea views and passes through a variety of landscapes: rocky cliffs, Mediterranean pine forests, old railway structures and panoramic viewpoints. One of the most impressive sections is the tunnel carved through Monte Bovalar (around 600 m long), a striking reminder of the old train line that once crossed this rugged coastline.
Along the way, you’ll find several highlights such as the Torre de la Corda and Torre Colomera, historic watchtowers overlooking the coast, as well as natural areas like La Renegà – a wild stretch of coastline known for its small coves, rock formations and crystal-clear water.
The route is well-equipped with rest areas and viewpoints, making it perfect for a relaxed pace, stopping to enjoy the scenery and take photos. It’s a smooth and pleasant walk, with a mix of shaded sections, open sea views and cultural points of interest that make the experience both scenic and varied.
Overall, it’s a simple but incredibly scenic coastal hike where nature, sea and history come together in a very unique way – ideal for a relaxed group experience outdoors.
