Xativa is a city located in the province of Valencia, at 25km to the west of the Mediterranean sea. In the 12th century, the Muslims brought the technology to manufacturate paper to the city, making it known throughout Europe as a center of manufacture and education. The city was also the home to one of the most powerful Christian family of the Rennaissance: The House of Borgia that produced two Popes.
Elected in 2008 as one of the seven wonders of Valencia, the city is famous for its unique Castle located between two peaks. You will experience visiting the same place that has lived through multiples battles in history, standing where old civilizations used to thrive.
Bocairent is a municipality in the Valencian community with a unique architecture present since medieval times. Walking in the narrow cobbled streets of the old part of the city will make you feel as if you have travelled throught time to experience medieval times.
But what makes this village special is none other than the Moorish caves that served as a grain storage in the past. You will have the opportunity to walk through a series of chambers directly carved into the side of a rock escarpment linked to over 50 windows.
The caves are very narrow and small, sometimes you will have to walk through them while crouching, if you are claustrophobic, don’t go inside.
